Business and Development Specialist

A\J (Alternatives Journal) – The voice of Canada’s environmental community is seeking someone to fill the position of Business and Development Specialist with our publication.

In general terms – and given the outward-facing nature of this position - the ideal candidate will be friendly and outgoing, be a great ambassador, be passionate about environmental causes and be conversant in the language of media and nonprofits.

We’re seeking someone who wants to take ‘ownership’ of A\J’s business and development  initiatives, leading each project to a positive outcome while keeping the ‘big picture’ in mind to guide your efforts. You will work in collaboration with A\J’s staff to:

  • lead business efforts, including media sales and fundraising and development
  • lead events and promotional activities
  • lead creative development and project execution for circulation and subscription activities
  • work in conjunction with the team to support sponsorship and fundraising efforts
  • participate in the production of special projects as needed

  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • excellent networking skills
  • experience working in a publishing environment and/or - experience working in nonprofit/charitable environment
  • excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • ability to juggle many tasks while maintaining a sense of humour

We see this position as a good opportunity for a relatively-recent graduate seeking to take the next step in their career. It will be a full-time position with compensation commensurate with experience.

If you think this might be a good fit with your talents and aspirations, please send your CV to our publisher, David McConnachie, at david(at)

Thank you!
